gomen nasai! was busy learning hiragana last nite that i didnt have time to update my entry. didnt even have time to say g'nite (^_^x)zzZZ to ppl nor put up an away msg. after 5 hrs of sleep, my alarm went off. decided i wasn't going to make an effort to get up and go to sleep in the lecture hall (may i add how uncomfortable those seats are?).

not sure who gave me this site: Berkeley Blogs. but they're giving away free blogs to berkeley students. for some reason, if you're asian, u must have a blog.

went out today w/ liam and wanderingsock and had dinner @ plern's. thai place on university. really good food. got too stuff tho. also not good when we're telling each other funny stories afterwards. stomach hurted a lot.

welp, the bowling video clips are up. enjoy!

for ppl that want to access the berkeley newsgroups, but are off-campus, they now allow access with your CalNET account. more info and instructions can be found here

thanks to belldandy for donating this site: KAGAYA. some pretty nice wallpapers. too bad they support only upto 1024x768.

lemme back track to yesterday. went to soda @ 7pm to start cs hw w/ belldandy and mteklabs. came home @ 4:30am and continued to work till 6am and went to sleep. 11hrs of hw and i still wasn't done. need to make efficienize my procratisnation skills. i think it must've gotten rusty over summer break.

welp, my office max package finally came today. did a total of 9 rebates and all of them are ready to be mailed! finally have my cdrs and i've burnt through ~15 already. oh yah, have u heard: Fuji America no longer using Taiyo Yuden media for their own discs?. i've learnt this several weeks ago, but thanks to horacio for donating that link. for those who still think all cdrs are the same, ur very wrong. many generic cdrs have been proven to die w/in a year or 2. for quick backups they're okay. then u have ritek and CMC and other dyes that many common brand use which lasts ~10 yrs or so. according to TY (taiyo yuden), the only cdr dye company in japan (that's why if ur cdrs say made in japan, they're most likely TYs), their cdrs would last > 30yrs, and research shows it can last much longer than 30yrs. only time will tell.

oh yah, if u didnt get y the letter about 2 bad cdrs were funny, lemme try explaining. cdrs that comes in spindles usually have 1 or 2 clear discs for protection. 1 definitely on the bottom. the top is up to the manufacturer. this guy sent in the 2 protection discs (which dont count towards the # of cdrs in the spindle) claiming it included 2 defective cdrs. what's funny is that i really think he tried burning on it and the cdr was unable to even read the stupid disc. lol.

not sure if u guys felt it, but we had a 3.9 earthquake this afternoon. i was in my apartment and the building suddenly had a big jolt. felt like some car crashed into it. looked out the window, but didnt see a car. here's an article about it.

lately, tons of ppl have been asking me if it was still safe to use kazaa and other p2p programs. i personally haven't used kazaa in months, and my reply would be to that they are only looking for servers and not leechers, so as long as u don't upload or dont upload much, u 'should' be safe. today anonymous posted this document. very interesting reading and shows u the process on how RIAA investigators go about busting p2p users. here's the advice anonymous gives:

  1. Don't allow other users to view the contents of your share folder. The RIAA simply took a screencapture of their target's (named 'nycfashiongirl') folder...nothing more hi-tech than that. On this alone, they were able to determine that she shared 900+ files and charged her on each file.
  2. Don't share everything you have at once. If you have 900 files, try putting up 200 and rotating them every couple of weeks. This moves you out of the "major violator" category.
  3. Use unique nicks at your own risk. I use defaultuser...and so do a million other Kazaa users.
  4. If possible, strip off all metatags from your MP3s. They prove that you didn't rip your mp3s from your own CDs. As soon as you download an MP3, move it to a non-shared folder until you have stripped it clean. I haven't done this yet but I will.
  5. Finally, I wouldn't include more than one song from any individual artist. The RIAA can run a search for say "The Beatles" and if you're sharing a bunch of their albums, you've made their job very easy, they can issue a subpeona to your ISP on the spot.

was updating my anime list while burning cds when i decided to shade every other line. recalled this was a tedious task cause everytime u added/inserted a new row, u had to redo everything. decided since this should be a fairly common preferenced, i googled it and found this: XL: How to Use Conditional Formatting to Shade Every Other Row. very useful and works perfectly. even works when i update/insert rows automatically!
